AKSEL SAND PEDERSEN

 

An art instructor for over thirty years, education includes graduating from the School of Industrial Arts in New York City; the United States Army Band; Bachelor of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York; Masters work in Art History at SUNY Binghamton, Binghamton, New York.

 

Awards include an art fellowship to Skidmore College, Saratoga, New York in 1991; a three time recipient of SCADS Educators Forum, Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Georgia, in 1992, 1993, 1997; a National Endowment of the Humanities grant to study Winslow Homer at Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York in 1995; Educators Forum, Pittsburgh Art Institute, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1996; Pennsylvania Council of the Arts Regional grants to teach adult art classes in Lakewood, Pennsylvania from 1977 to 2000; Plein-Aire painting class at Moreau State Park, Saratoga, New York, 2004.

 

Exhibitions include fifty five one man shows beginning in New York City in 1968, twelve group shows, and four two man shows and in galleries, museums, regional arts centers, libraries, and public venues throughout New York State, Pennsylvania, Texas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Delaware, South Carolina and Rhode Island. 

He has given numerous art related lectures to various organizations, institutions, and colleges, including New York State Historical Society Cooperstown, SUNY Binghamton Film Department, Saratoga County Arts Council.

 

In addition to his career as an art instructor he has worked as a commercial artist, illustrated several books, designed over seventy stage play sets, written and produced many radio dramas and murder mystery events.
